Short Breaks in the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire

The Cotswolds and Gloucestershire are an ideal destination for a weekend or short break away from it all.
Leave the city and escape to the country and sample the delights of the beautiful English countryside.
Within easy reach of London,Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham, with a travel time of 1-2 hours, you can be relaxing and enjoying fantastic B & B or self catering farmstay accommodation before you know it.

There are all types of accommodation available from farmhouse B & B's, self catering barn conversions to glorious glamping. There are 3 destination areas, The Cotswolds, Severn Vale and Royal Forest of Dean in which to base yourselves. Each area has very different landscapes but there is something for everyone amongst the 3 areas.

The Forest of Dean is one of the surviving ancient woodlands in England, covering an area of 110 square kilometres, and has loads to do. Puzzlewood is a popular filming location for the BBC and Warner Bros hosting Dr Who, Harry Potter and Star Wars, and it isn’t hard to see why, this maze of winding paths and moss covered rocks
and trees, an eerie and enchanting place. Also in the forest is the opportunity for canoeing, cycling, learning bush-craft and exploring the canopy through the Go Ape Tree Top Adventure. It also has some fantastic walks to suit all ages and abilities.

Also famous in Gloucestershire are, of course, the Cotswolds, with its quintessentially English villages and rolling Cotswolds hills. There is plenty to do during your short break, perhaps walk along the Cotswold way and then reward yourself with a cream tea or pub lunch in one of the many great cafes or country pubs.  There are many other places to visit including country houses, beautiful gardens and historic sites, such as Sudeley Castle, Calcot Manor, Chavenage House, Hidcote, Snowshill Manor and Chedworth Roman Villa, all of which make excellent days out.

Down in the Severn Vale, Gloucester itself is another great place to visit. Full of cafes and shops in the recently re developed historic docks, waterway museum and tall ship festival during May. For those looking for a meal or even just a pint The New Inn is a unique place to visit. This Grade I listed building is the most complete surviving examples of a medieval courtyard inn in the whole of England. Cheltenham, once famous for its beneficial Spa water properties is a great town to visit with Georgian architecture, a host of festivals, fantastic restaurants, great theatre and live music venues . From the biggest national hunt racing festival in March to the science, food, jazz and literature festivals throughout the summer into the autumn, these are all good events to plan your visit around.

Gloucestershire has something for everyone, nature, history, atmosphere, and modern amenities. If you are planning a short break we offer a fantastic range of accommodation at brilliant value.
