Britain is just steeped in history

Wherever you choose to stay you will never be far from a glimpse into our rich and varied history.

Your Farmstay B&B host will be able to suggest some greats places to visit from Stonehenge, Roman forts to cold war bunkers.

Abbeys

Many of our self-catering cottages are ideally located for exploring some of this countries most historic sites.

Our Easter dates are defined by the ruling of the Synod of Whitby in 664 held at Whitby Abbey in North Yorkshire. Today you can wander around the enchanting ruins and learn about life in medieval times.

Whilst many religious buildings where converted or destroyed by King Henry VIII there are many you can still visit. Tintern Abby on the Welsh borders, Glastonbury Abbey in the South West. Lindisfarne Priory in the North East and St Augustine’s Abbey in Canterbury.

Stately Homes

The most well known stately homes like Harewood House, Castle Howard and Blenheim and wonderful to visit but don’t forget the many smaller houses that pepper the British countryside. Attingham Park near Shrewsbury is well worth a visit and the Elizabethan Burton Agnes Hall in Yorkshire is just entrancing.

As well as being able to the tour the houses you can also enjoy the grounds and gardens.

Imposing castles and entrancing ruins
