British Tourism Week 15 - 19 March

Posted on Mon., January 25, 1:16 PM

British Tourism cannot be outsourced - it has to happen in the UK, not in an overseas call centre.

It is the 3rd largest generator of overseas currency.

It could pay for 140,000 nurses.

It affects : -

Everyone - 2.65 million jobs in tourism, £114 billion income per year, 80% spent by UK domestic travellers in the UK

Everywhere - only health and education have as broad a business as tourism, it sustains rural communities, it regenerates city centres.

Every Day - it's a 365/24/7 business - on average there are nearly 65,000 US tourists in the UK everyday.

If you meet your current MP or parliamentary candidate ask them:

1) Are they investing in creating the required skills for tourism to fill jobs.

2) Why are they letting us be so uncompetitive fiscally against our European neighbours?  Tourism VAT in France is 5%, Germany 7%

3) What are they going to do to improve sustainability and their green credentials?

4) Why do governmental departments not consider tourism worth consulting every time they make a decision?

Make them think about it - over 134 constituencies have over 10% of their employees working in tourism - how are they supporting it?

Andy Woodward, Chief Executive
