On a perfect English Summer's Day, I was delighted to visit Deerhurst Bed and Breakfast on the banks fo the River Severn near Tewksbury in Gloucestershire. The stunning architecture of the old farmhouse next to a magnificent Saxon Church was a delightful setting and a perfect spot from which to explore Gloucestershire and Herefordshire, as well as nearby Cheltenham and Gloucester. The B&B accommodation was in a seperate barn loft and ideal for an independent stay, allowing you to come and go as you please. I was picking up Farm Stay collateral needing to go between the Three Counties Show and The last and final Royal Show, held in our own backyard at Stoneleigh Park.
On a perfect Welsh Summer's Day, I then payed the £5.40 it costs to get into Wales via the Severn Bridge - always wondering why it's free to get out! I was delighted to cement our plans to work with VisitWales for another 12 months and delighted that they continue to support Farm accommodation and Farm Stay Wales. The opportunity to eat local Welsh beef was not missed before supporting our tourism colleagues at the Wales Tourism Alliance's 10th Birthday Celebrations. Alun Ffred Jones, AM Minister for Heritage and responsible for tourism spoke on the importance the Alliance plays within Welsh Tourism and the value that the indusrty brings to the Country.
As I drove home, past the Brecon Beacons, over the River Severn and into the Cotswolds, I reflected that there is so much to see, so many great Farm Stay places to stay and so much great local food to eat, you really don't need to be anywhere else in the world!
