My faith in the British vacation has been tried and tested and not found wanting. Three days on the beach, one at a steam fair, a days cycling as a family and a day exploring local gardens and scenery made for a pretty packed itinerary. With so many beautiful places and ideas to visit in the UK it was a bit of a cliche to find ourselves on the north side of Newquay frequenting Lusty Glaze beach, its surf, beautiful setting and excellent facilities. When the sun is shining you really don't need to be anywhere else. Even having father and son both stand on Weaver fish within moments of each other became an experience rather than a disaster, having endured the UK's most painful sting, yet being treated knowledgeably and effectively by the on-site lifeguards, who as always do a great job, thanks fellas.
A short distance from the great beaches of Newquay, close to Newlyn East, is Degembris Farmhouse. This beautiful traditional stone farmhouse is now the home of Hannah and Andrew, having taken over the B&B from her mum Kathy Woodly. Kathy is running the stunning self-catering units, all housed in old farm buildings in the yard. Both the B&B and self-catering are 4 star and the B&B is Highly Commended by the AA and most deserving of it.
South of Falmouth, nestling on the banks of the Helford Passage, are two outstanding gardens; Trebah has long been a favourite place of mine, however it was great to finally be able to visit Glendurgan Gardens just a short distance away. Sadly we had missed the rhodidendrons, however it is still very beautiful and the maze is a great place to explore with the family. A short ride along the coastal lanes brought us into view of the ever impressive St Michaels Mount. We stopped at a small B&B serving afternoon tea - 2 teas, fizzy drink and ice cream for under £4 - the bargain of the week.
With nearly 150 Farm Stay properties in Devon and Cornwall alone, Farm Stay is a great way to experience eveything that the South West has to offer.
