Working Down on the Farm

Posted on Wed., September 2, 1:53 PM

One question that is often asked when visitors find the Farm Stay website, or pick up one of our brochures, is can I work on a farm, or do you do Working Farm holidays.  To be honest, unlike many of our overseas contemparies, where working farm holidays are an essential provider of temporary jobs, and good life experiences, it is not something that is required or offered much in the UK these days.  Maggie Berry, Chairman of Farm Stay UK and B&B and bunkhouse provider at Brenley Farm House near Faversham in Kent is a traditional hop grower and just this week has had BBC Countryfile on site filming hop picking.  Once the opportunity for the city populus to get out into the sticks once a year, even this is a dying trade and is now restricted to regulars, some of whom have been coming since 1961.

So why not adopt a more modern approach, pick one of our B&B or self-catering properties and let someone else do the work!
