Although the rules applying to EPC's officially became law at the end of June, confusion still reigns over the future of the programme. Questions in the House of Commons to a DCLG Minister last week highlighted that the rules are being reviewed and maybe revised within weeks.
Sadly the exact technical detail is a little beyond the Editor of this column, suffice to say that DCMS is not happy with DCLG who administer the legalities of this case. Technically all self-catering properties should now have EPC's and officially Farm Stay UK would not condone any breaking of the law, however you may feel you want to wait while the current confusion is reviewed and clear direction is offered.
When the EPC issue became relevant back in February, Farm Stay UK recommended that a company called EPCWorx would provide low cost EPC certificates. I regret to say that a number of members have found the company to very inefficient and we apologise for this inconvenience. FSUK has no commercial relationship with this company and therefore we would suggest making yourselves aware of local organisations that would carry out the work for you should you wish to proceed
