Farm Stay's Chief Executive To Advise Two National Tourism Groups

Dec 14, 2011

Andy Woodward comments: "Being appointed to these two highly influential tourism groups illustrates Farm Stay UK's increasing importance within the tourism industry and for this reason I am delighted to be involved. In particular, it is brilliant that the role of tourism within rural economies all over the Country is being recognised, and I am very pleased that Farm Stay UK has been asked to represent this growing sector.

"The popularity of the countryside has never been greater and it is crucial that all tourism organisations working in the countryside continue to develop their quality and offer while this trend continues. Programmes like Countryfile, Coast and the plethora of food shows highlighting British produce have had a profound impact on consumer interest and we need to support this trend."

Visit England's Strategic Industry Advisory Group consists of 20 of the UK's major industry partners. Members represent the spectrum of interests across tourism and the visitor economy and have been invited to participate by VisitEngland due to their ability to drive action forward in their areas and influence stakeholders. Those invited will be the major national representative entities, trade associations for the key tourism sectors and industry experts with knowledge in areas pertinent to Strategic Framework implementation.

The Tourism Alliance seeks to establish and maintain a favourable operating environment for all businesses involved in the delivery of tourism, particularly in England. Its main purpose is to lobby government both in England and Brussels on the key strategic issues facing the industry.

Facts and figures: In 2010, a report from VisitEngland showed that countryside and village tourism was worth £2.8 Billion to the rural economy and was attributable for 18% of all revenue. It also represents 17% of all overnight stays taken in England. For the first 6 months of 2011, "countryside and village" tourism has shown an increase of 7.7% for trips and 8.5% for revenue.
