Foodie breaks at Farm Stay UK

Sep 30, 2011

Members of the UK's top farm accommodation group, Farm Stay UK, continue to diversify, with a huge number opening up acres of land for foraging, sloe picking, mushroom gathering and much more. With contemporary and traditional star rated farmhouses and converted cottages, there are huge choices for a short autumn break, with foodie activities in the day and luxurious accommodation for fireside evenings.

Some of the activities available to guests this autumn include:

• A Mushroom School at Kirkwood Farm in Scotland which has a vast selection of wild mushrooms waiting to be picked - get tips on where to forage and tuition from a professional guide
• Bring a bottle...of Gin to Damerons Farm in Suffolk, gather up sloes and head back to the farm kitchen where you can create sloe gin
• Pick blackberries and hazel nuts at Cyfie Farm in Wales, then taste your delights in the hot tub in the farms' converted pig sty
• Forage for fungi and chestnuts in Norfolk, then nip back to the self-catering accommodation at Spixworth Hall Cottages for a dip in the pool
• Grab a group of friends and stay at Upperfields Farm in Herefordshire, where local foodie Raoul Van Den Brouke offers groups a guided food forage.

Andy Woodward, Chief Executive of Farm Stay UK comments, "Our members are perfectly situated to offer these foodie breaks and it's great to see so many opening up their land to their guests. A foraging weekend doesn't necessarily mean roughing it in a hut in the woods (although it could mean a yurt, shepherd's hut or even a wigwam!). Our members work incredibly hard to create stylish, luxurious accommodation for their guests and offer activities for children and adults alike. Holidays in the UK don't need to be dull, there's a huge amount of fun to be had out there - we just need our guests to take advantage of it!"
