Visitors to the breakfast event held at the recent Best of Britain & Ireland show were treated to a delicious farmhouse breakfast thanks to members of leading farm accommodation organisation Farm Stay UK. From mouthwatering pigs in blankets to Irish speciality bread and delicious bacon sandwiches, Farm Stay UK members cooked up a storm using ingredients sourced from their own farms and local and regional producers.
The Best of Britain & Ireland trade and consumer event took place from 26th - 29th March at London's ExCel and Farm Stay UK was thrilled to be invited to host the opening breakfast. Chairman, Maggie Berry, Vice Chairman Barbara Sleep, Northern Ireland Director, Heather Torrens and Farm Stay UK member and breakfast champion Jim Stratton from Cheshire all attended the event to cook breakfast and served over 40 members from the national and international press.
"Farm Stay UK members pride themselves on serving only the best, freshly cooked breakfasts to their guests and we were delighted to be asked to serve breakfast at the Best of Britain & Ireland," said Maggie Berry, Chairman of Farm Stay UK. "Farmhouse cooking is a passion for all of our members and many of them have been presented with awards to recognise the fine quality breakfasts they serve to their guests. The breakfast at the Best of Britain & Ireland tourism show gave us the opportunity to showcase some of our favourite speciality recipes from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales and we were so pleased with the response we had from visitors to the show and the speed in which all our plates were emptied!" finished Maggie.
Visitors to the breakfast enjoyed bespoke mini Spitfire Ale sausages wrapped in bacon from butcher AJ Barkaway in Kent; wheaten, potato and soda bread made with flour milled in Belfast, buttermilk from Ballyrashane Creamery and potatoes from Aghadowey in Northern Ireland; award-winning Gloucester Old Spot pork sausages and bacon from Stockton and Stratton in Cheshire; homemade stewed rhubarb served with fresh Yeo Valley Yoghurt and Dorset Cereals' Honey Granola; English Blueberry pancakes and fresh apple juice from Kent.
