Press Release

Oct 09, 2009

What no bacon?  Oh yes there is.

Following recent reaction to a suggestion that less meat should be served by bed and breakfast providers, members of Farm Stay UK wish to reassure people who love their ‘proper farmhouse breakfast’ that its members will continue to serve traditional breakfasts every day to many thousands of guests up and down the UK.

What’s more, alongside the local bacon, sausages, home cooked ham, black pudding and hogs pudding, there is likely to be farm yoghurts and local milk, big bowls of fruit compote, healthy cereals, freshly caught fish, kippers, newly laid eggs, porridge and lashings of home-made preserves.

“Traditional breakfasts are as much a part of a holiday as ice cream on the beach or an afternoon tea and our members’ guests tell us that they choose to stay in farmhouses because of the quality of the local food served up around the breakfast table. It is one of the great British traditions and many thousands of people stay on a farm simply to enjoy a plate of gorgeous crispy bacon and fresh eggs before stretching out for a long countryside walk,” explained Andy Woodward, Chief Executive of Farm Stay UK.

So, a collective sigh of relief.  Breakfasts are safe  in the hands of Farm Stay UK members who will continue to uphold great farming traditions, never wasting food, buying locally from other farms to save food miles, making bread, marmalade and jam, collecting eggs and serving them while they are less than a day old.
