    Higher Hill
  • image description

Higher Hill is a classic ‘upside down’ house - the bedrooms are on the ground floor, while the huge open plan living/dining room is upstairs. Bright, light and spacious with a sun deck through French windows on the western side, it offers the perfect space to get the whole family together. Many guests have eaten all their meals al fresco on the balcony in the summer.

The Shaker style kitchen has a gas hob with electric oven and plenty of units. There is a separate cloakroom with WC upstairs.

On the ground floor, you’ll find three generously sized bedrooms. There’s a double with king size bed and stunning, large en-suite shower room. There’s also a twin room and another double which share a bathroom with corner bath and separate shower. And the large slate floored hallway has plenty of space for the whole family’s boots and coats.

    Lowen
  • image description
    Sleeps 8

Lowen is undeniably the jewel in our crown.

Words don't do it justice – you really have to see it. It's earthy and organic, almost as if it might have grown out of the ground.

Wherever you look, there's something to capture your attention, like the huge, timber beams, which make up the structure of the cottage and are hundreds of years old, the vibrant décor and specially commissioned handcrafted artwork. Almost all the furnishings are either environmentally friendly and/or recycled and locally sourced.

The name, Lowen, stands for ‘low energy’ – but it’s also Cornish for happy. It's a zero carbon, energy self-sufficient house. It uses energy from the sun and ground to provide electricity, heating and hot water for guests. And it also sends surplus electricity back to the grid. Lowen also has a Type 2 EV charging point for electric vehicles.

The living space is perfect for families or groups of friends. Downstairs, it’s open plan, with huge windows offering beautiful views down the valley towards the woods. Facing south, the light filters in throughout the day, making the living space wonderfully inviting.

The kitchen is large and bright with a range of luxury fittings, including a huge American style fridge and a granite worktop.

On the ground floor there's a twin bedroom and a king size bedroom with a shared wet room. The first floor has a super king bedroom with zip-link beds (can be made into twin beds) with en-suite bathroom plus shower and another double bedroom with en-suite shower room.

Outside, there's is a sheltered patio with outdoor furniture and a fire pit perfect for al fresco group get-togethers. There’s a hot tub in the garden with glorious views over the fields in the day and perfect and of the star-strewn sky at night. Indoors, you’ll find Sky TV and 42” LED wall-mounted screen – perfect for a group film screening or showing family films and photographs.

And check out the display screen in the hallway – you can see how much energy is being produced and used at any time.

Best for: Large families or groups of friends looking for a totally different self-catering holiday experience.

Please note: A deposit of £200 is required upon arrival to mitigate against misuse of or damage to our hot tub (which has to be drained and refilled if abused) - this is fully refundable on departure if no damage is incurred.

    Pentree
  • image description
    Sleeps 5

Like the Tardis, Pentree is much bigger on the inside than it seems on the outside...

Furnished in a contemporary style, Pentree is deceptively spacious. It’s single storey and has a large entrance porch with a washing machine (a big bonus if you’ve got babies or toddlers) and plenty of space for wellies and coats.

The open plan living/dining room is the heart of this cottage. With high beamed ceilings, a feature granite fireplace with a gas wood burner, and a large picture window with views over the garden and fields beyond, it offers a lovely central space for the whole family to unwind.

The master bedroom is spacious with a king size bed and plenty of space for a cot. Alongside a separate bathroom has wc, basin and shower over the bath. There is also a large twin bedroom which has a hideaway bed for a fifth person (if you need it) with its own en-suite.

Outside, you’ve got your own patio and grassed garden area, where you’ll often see rabbits, birds, and our resident ducks and chickens. Pentree is only a hop, skip and a jump away from the play barn, so great for families with young children.

Best for: Couples and families with young children and toddlers and people with limited mobility.

    Coliza
  • image description
    Sleeps 4

Coliza is one of our most popular cottages, and it’s not hard to see why.

It combines the charm of traditional thatched cottage (like oak beams, wobbly walls, huge inglenook fireplace, antique furniture and a pretty handmade kitchen with slate floor) with all the modern comforts you’d expect.

From the moment you walk through the oak stable door to the traditional style kitchen/diner, it’s like stepping in to a storybook setting. You don’t have to stretch your imagination too far to picture the Three Bears sitting down to eat their porridge at the kitchen table here!

The lounge is roomy and comfortable with its dramatic oak beamed fireplace and granite hearth. There’s a large gas fired log burner - perfect for cosy nights in during the autumn and winter.

There’s a separate entrance leading to the children’s play area, with a hallway and cloakroom with WC.

Head up the oak staircase on the first floor and you’ll find two large bedrooms, one king size and one twin. Both rooms have high ceilings with beams, pretty dormer windows and polished oak floors, and there’s plenty of room for a cot in either bedroom. The bathroom has a roll top bath and separate corner shower.

Best for: Coliza's near the children’s play area, so it’s ideal for families with toddlers. It's also perfect a romantic break or weekend getaway

    Farmhouse

    Sleeps 12

Stepping into the Farmhouse is a little like stepping back in time...

We’ve updated the interior, we’ve decorated and furnished in a traditional style in keeping with the style of the building. Now a listed building, it has a rather unusual layout, which makes it perfect for family games of hide and seek!

The kitchen is the heart of the house, the hub where everything happens. Great days out start here, over a hearty fry up for breakfast.

Country Living lovers will adore its old pine dresser, bright Provencale style tiles, bespoke kitchen with granite worktop and slate floor. Imagine sitting around the huge refectory table, with supper bubbling on the Aga, and an open bottle of wine....(don't worry, the Aga comes with instructions and there's also an electric oven and gas hob!)

After supper, you can relax, chat or play games in the 38ft long living room, with solid oak floor, comfy leather sofas. This room is heated by a wood burner set in a huge inglenook fireplace with a massive granite lintel.

Just off the living room, there's a smaller sitting room with another TV. Glass doors lead out to the garden and patio – perfect for anyone seeking a bit of peace and quiet after a hectic day, or as a play room.

There are two bedrooms at the back of the house, a single and a ensuite double with its own toliet, washbasin and shower.

Upstairs, off the half landing is a bathroom (including a shower over the bath). You’ll find four bedrooms on the first floor, three doubles, and a triple. The master bedroom has a 5ft bed and an en-suite shower room. There’s also another bathroom with a shower for the other two doubles to share.

The Farmhouse is a brilliant space for group holidays - bringing friends and family together for whatever reason, special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, parties, Christmas and New Year. Taking the Farmhouse and one or several of the other cottages means that families can get together whilst still having their own breathing space!

Best for: A family gathering or celebration. The Farmhouse also makes the ideal base for a holiday with a group of friends. NB Although it is spacious, the Farmhouse can also suit smaller groups - if 6 or less people will be staying and not using all the bedrooms (and no smaller cottage available), then a low occupancy discount of 30% can apply - please call us to discuss on 01726 72128.

New for 2015 - the Farmhouse now has its own hot tub in the garden, making it even more special for a relaxing getaway!
