Details

Three comfortable self catering cottages sleeping four and two with loads of character in a quiet and peaceful valley just six miles from Dartmouth and the seaside.

Lower Collaton Farm is a traditional old Devonshire farmhouse, dating back to Domesday, nestled in a peaceful secluded valley, with south facing views over rolling countryside. Here James and Rosie Mussen have three charming self catering cottages that are available for holidays.

The Stables which sleeps four is an 'upside down' house with open plan on the first floor and double and twin bedrooms plus bathroom with bath and sparate shower below. The ancient beams are exposed, giving the cottage lots of character. There is an outside seating area under the grape vine, with a bbq, and a further guests area to the rear. It is available from Easter to the end of September.

The Byre is where the cows used to be milked, and is now a cottage with great character, sleeping four in a double and a twin bedroom, both en suite. The twin bedroom can be altered to a double with the zip and likk mattresses. Upstairs the spacious living area shows off the beautiful old scissor beams, and there are lovely views down the valley from the south facing window. There is a dining area, and a well equipped kitchen.

Tucked into the opposite side of the courtyard is The Old Granary, our delightful cosy cottage for just two. With maple flooring and beamed ceiling, the downstairs bedroom has an adjacent wetroom. Up the winding stairs is the kitchen and living area. Outside is a pretty little garden. It’s available throughout the year, and for short breaks out of season.

Lower Collaton is ideally placed, only six miles from Dartmouth and the same distance from Totnes, Kingsbridge and award winning local beaches such as Blackpool Sands. It is an ideal base for coastal and moorland walking, and for visiting the many local gardens such as Agatha Christie’s Greenway and the D’Oyley Carte’s Collaton Fishacre, (both National Trust). Foodies will enjoy the fish at Mitch Tonks’ famous Sea Horse restaurant or John Burton Race’s New Angel in Dartmouth. There are many more fine eating places to try close by!

Lower Collaton used to be a small working farm, and now they are retired Rosie and James have some inquisitive hens in the yard, call ducks on the pond, and a small flock of Shetland, Jacob and Zwartble sheep. Several are particularly tame and friendly, and guests and their children are welcome to be introduced at closer quarters.

Lower Collaton Farm is a traditional old Devon farmhouse, dating back to the Domesday Book, with peaceful views over rolling countryside down the valley of the river Gara. It is only six miles from the sea, Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. Dartmoor National Park is only a short drive away, and day trips to Exeter, Plymouth or the Eden Project are easily undertaken.

At the opposite side of the courtyard from the farmhouse is The Byre, converted into a comfortable and spacious two bedroom cottage sleeping four people in two en suite bedrooms (one double, one twin). The twin is a ‘zip and link’ which can be converted to a large double. To take advantage of the beautiful views of the fields and valley, it is an upside down house, with the living area upstairs. There is a child gate at the top of the stairs.

The living and dining area is open plan, with the original ‘scissor’ beams exposed, giving the cottage loads of character. Twelve cows used to be milked here, and the names on their stalls are now on the wall in honour of the previous residents!  The main and second bedrooms are downstairs looking out onto the patio. Outside there is a small lawn and a patio area, ideal for a good summer barbeque!
