Newt Cottage is a beautiful picture-postcard cottage, with roses and honeysuckle climbing around the small-paned sash windows. Light streams into this south facing Victorian cottage, which we’ve carefully restored to preserve a lovely traditional atmosphere. Curl up before a roaring fire in the old Tweed range for afternoon tea.

Newt Cottage has two sunny bedrooms overlooking the large country garden. A fairy-tale four poster double bed in the rose pink bedroom adds to the enchantment of the cottage, and in the forget-me-not blue small bedroom there is a cosy, traditional, single bed. Our beds are dressed with deep feather duvets topped with luxurious organic bed linen for a wonderful night's sleep.

Beyond the front door there’s a large secluded cottage garden full of flowers, trees and wild areas. Relax in the stillness of the evening at the picnic bench, surrounded by birdsong. You may even hear the screech of a barn owl swooping low over the organic meadow behind the garden hedge.

Hunting Hall is a wonderful place to stay. On our traditional family farm there are always animals to see; a Saddleback sow in a barn full of straw with piglets playing hide-and-seek, peacocks, hens and geese waddling about. There are acres of farmland to explore along a farm trail winding through this peaceful countryside where we have made a haven for wildlife.

A holiday at Hunting Hall offers a wonderful diverse landscape to explore. The Holy Island Causeway, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is only five miles away and there are long stretches of deserted sandy beaches with the dramatic coastal castles of Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, Warkworth and Dunstanburgh. Inland, towards the Cheviot Hills, the countryside becomes much wilder and there are some breathtaking walks through valleys and over heather topped hillsides. Northumberland has bustling market towns, picturesque villages, stately homes and museums. National Cycle Network Route 1 and The St. Cuthbert’s Way lie only 2 miles away, so it’s a perfect base for walkers and cyclists.

We hope visitors to Hunting Hall will discover the wonderful natural heritage of North Northumberland and help us protect this special environment. In 2009 we were delighted to win the North East Sustainable Tourism Award, in 2013 Hunting Hall won two Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Awards for Excellence; Sustainable Tourism and Farming and Land Management, and in 2018 Hunting Hall won the North East Rural Award for Farming and the Environment. We were proud to be presented with the North Northumberland Voluntary Forum, Local Business Support Award in 2019 for giving outstanding support to our local community.

Additional Directions Information

From the A1: Travel along the A1 until you reach the Lindisfarne Inn at Beal. Turn West (inland) directly opposite the turn off for Holy Island (the road is signposted Kentstone). Follow the road up one side of a hill, down the other, past Kentstone Farm and keep going until you reach a 'T' junction at which you have to give way. Turn right and then immediately left. A short way along this road at the first bend you will see the Hunting Hall sign on your left. The farm road bears to the left at the bottom of the hill. Please drive with extreme caution, this is a blind bend. Follow the road up the hill and to the right into the farm. Drive straight up the farmyard and park on the gravel at the top.
