The film The Theory of Everything was shot on location using many of the University of Cambridge's colleges (primarily St. John's), as well as the cobbled streets of the city. The film is based on the life of world famous Astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who famously studied at Cambridge University. The film has been a great success and Eddie Redmayne won Best Leading Actor for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking.
Ely Cathedral stood in for Westminster Abbey in the film The Kings Speech starring Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter.
