Lakes of Cumbria

Cumbria is home to The Lake District National Park, Englands largest national park, which covers a tremendous 2292 square km of pristine lake-land.

The lakes themselves are no less impressive, with their sizes ranging from the massive Windermere, at 14.8 square km, to tiny Brotherswater, at 0.2 square km.

The park draws in almost 16 million visitors each year, making it one of the most popular destinations in the whole country, and it’s not hard to see why.

Over 21 bodies of water dot the landscape, all with their own unique scenery and identity, giving the Lake District one of the most varied landscapes in England.

But the Lakes are not just pretty to look at. Various activities are on offer too, from a relaxing waterside stroll to an exhilarating afternoon wakeboarding. If a burst of adrenaline is your cup of tea, try your hand at sailing or windsurfing, with one of the many water-sports providers around the park.

Or if a peaceful holiday is on the cards, why not rent a paddle board and glide your way over the surface of the water, free from everything but the calm breeze on your face.

Then as the sun begins to set, make your way back to your hillside FarmStay property, and marvel at the light fading over the mountains.
