Short Breaks Hampshire
Once you are ready to leave your cottage or B&B you will discover what an excellent place and how packed with things to do Hampshire is. The city of Winchester is a great place to spend a day. Winchester Cathedral boasts the longest nave of any Gothic cathedral in the whole of Europe and is well worth a visit, especially interesting is the underground crypt with Anthony Gormley’s “Sound II” sculpture located within it. Also in Winchester is Winchester Castle, founded in 1067 this castle is now the museum of Winchester and houses the famous round table of King Arthur.
For those who appreciate more modern attractions Gunwharf Quays in Portsmouth is a fantastic place to visit. This outlet shopping centre is packed with bars and restaurants as well as a plethora of shops, however the star attraction is the Spinnaker Tower. This 170 meter high tower, complete with glass floor, offers outstanding view over Portsmouth, the Isle of Wight and the surrounding area, with France even visible on a clear day.
Lastly the New Forest is a wonderful place to visit on a sunny day. A beautiful area of Hampshire and it is not uncommon for free roaming forest ponies to be hanging out by the side of the road, as well as ponies the forest is also home to all six species of deer in the UK and is designated as an area of Special Scientific Interest. Offering some beautiful walks with great pubs at the end of them, the New Forest is a must for those that like the outdoors.
