Film and TV Locations in Dorset

broadchurch dorset The TV drama Broadchurch proved extremely popular with viewers, not only because of its plot twists but also for the towering Jurassic cliffs and vast beach at West Bay. 

The brilliant Wolf Hall TV series was mainly filmed in Wiltshire but it did use some locations in Dorset, including Sherborne Abbey and the National Trust’s Montacute House. Far from the Madding Crowd was a hit for all Thomas Hardy fans with the Dorset landscape playing a key part, alongside the Jacobean Mapperton House and Sherborne Abbey.

Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage cookery series originated just outside Bridport. Although it’s now gone over the border into Devon, there is still plenty of involvement with different locations in Dorset.

Another two films that are worth a mention are Tamara Drewe, shot in and around Salway Ash, and From Time to Time starring Dame Maggie Smith filmed at Athelhampton House.
