Why The South West?

Surfers can enjoy the rugged North coastline of the South west whilst those who prefer quieter seas can relax at a beach on the gentle, more placid Southern coast.  Enjoy long walks along pebbled beaches or use the golden sands to build memorable sand castles!  Visitors to Dorset can enjoy the world heritage coastline known as the Jurassic coast.
A wealth of National Trust properties are available to visit throughout the South West.  2012 South West Tourism’s large visitor attraction of the Year is situated on the Devon/Cornwall border - Cotehele is a fine example of a property steeped in History supported by beautiful country gardens.  Step back in time at Arlington Court in North Devon where visitors can tour the estate in a horse and carriage or visit Lacock Abbey situated in the beautiful Wiltshire village of Lacock where you may recognise some familiar scenes from Harry Potter. 

Dartmoor Many gardens are available for viewing in the South West.  The world famous Eden Project and Heligan gardens are both in Cornwall whilst Devon has RHS Rosemoor in the North of the County.  Hestercombe Gardens in Somerset provides over 50 acres of lakes; woodland and cascading colour and Dorset boosts the stunning Abbotsbury Swannery and Gardens.

For those interested in Culture and History, a holiday in the South West of England will not disappoint.  The Roman Baths are a must for any visitor heading to Wiltshire; Avebury and Stonehenge must also appear on the ‘To Do’ list. Somerset hosts the world famous Cheddar Gorge and in Devon, visitors are able to trace the steps of Sir Francis Drake on the cobbled streets of Plymouth Barbican and the Hoe.

For the more active, many of our hosts have a range of facilities to offer – fishing and horse riding is often available on-site or close by.  Some owners have swimming pools, hot tubs and other leisure facilities.  For children, many properties have a children’s play area or games room and often, children can spend time with the animals or watch combine harvesters and balers shave the fields of their growing crops.  Miles of South West coastline or acres of moorland and heathland can be explored making the South West a popular destination for walkers and cyclists alike.  Some owners also allow dogs by arrangement so guests can bring their loyal friends to enjoy the South West countryside as well.
