North Yorkshire Towns and Villages

Many of NORTH YORKSHIRE'S Towns and Villages are steeped in history and although time has not stood still here there is great pride in our heritage and many traditions are still enjoyed, like the markets held in many small towns on various days of the week.  In fact you could visit a different one every day.
The towns come to life with noise and colour and banter from the stallholders and public alike.  Many towns have great film and literary connections. Scarborough is a traditional family seaside resort recently used to film 'Little Voice'.  This vibrant town has something for all, including donkey rides for the children, sandy beaches, amusements, shops and the harbour.

Whitby - home of Captain James Cook , enjoys regular visits from his ship Endeavour, as well as links with Bran Stoker's Dracula, which was inspired by the Abbey, and you can follow a Dracula trail.  Lewis Carroll was also inspired by the charms of the town.
In the Harrogate district you can do town trails round Harrogate, Ripon, Masham & Knaresborough. Harrogate's  Pump Rooms museum where you can taste the sulphuric spa waters, relax in the Turkish Baths or indulge in retail therapy.  When you need a sit down why not try the famous 'Betty's Tearooms' owned by Taylors - creators of Yorkshire tea.

York is famous worldwide for its Minster, numerous museums, shops, parks and gardens.   The ancient market town of Richmond is steeped in history and legend.  It boasts a castle, Georgian buildings and even a ghost of Frances I'Anson - the Lass of Richmond Hill.

Settle nestles in the Yorkshire Dales and is also a traditional market town. Easily accessible by road or rail it stands alongside the famous Settle-Carlisle Railway - one of England's most scenic railways.

Skipton offers a market 4 days a week, a castle, a nearby steam railway, canal boat trips, cafes and shops as well as being the Gateway to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.

In the Dales small towns like Masham, Leyburn, Hawes and Grassington, are all interconnected by meandering roads through the most stunning of scenery.  Many more towns, too numerous to mention are all waiting to welcome you and your family.
