Traditional yet modern, our self-catering cottages are the perfect base for relaxation and adventure in the northern Lake District. Unwind by a log fire, explore the farm, enjoy fresh farm eggs for breakfast ... most of all, feel rejuvinated and rested amongst magnificent scenery.

Beautifully converted from traditional stone barns, our four self-catering farm cottages are spacious, comfortable and equipped to a high standard, retaining many original features. The traditional 17th Century buildings use modern 21st Century technology and are heated with an environmentally friendly ground source heat pump system.

The setting is a stunning and peaceful location at the foot of the Helvellyn range, surrounded by the dramatic Lakeland scenery. There are plenty of walks directly from the farm and hundreds within a short drive. Within easy reach of Keswick, Grasmere, Ambleside and all the other attractions of the English Lake District National Park.

Fornside Farm is a typical 17thC Lakeland hill farm, set back from the road with direct, private access to the fells. Our sheep farm, which our guests are free to explore, covers 54 acres of beautiful countryside with spectacular views. We have four self catering cottages beautifully converted from stone barns alongside the traditional farmhouse.  Well equipped, warm and welcoming with underfloor heating downstairs and radiators upstairs, plus a wood-burning stove.  We have free range hens, ducks and geese and have plans to add pigs in the coming months.  There is a private farm trail (map provided) to help you enjoy our woods, fields, streams, wildlife and fantastic views.

Bookings are mostly Friday to Friday during peak season but we do offer weekend and mid-week breaks in most term-times.

Upstairs there is a master bedroom (king-sized bed) and en suite shower room, a twin or superking room and a room with adult size bunk beds; also a shared bathroom with shower over bath. This cottage has a sitting out and bbq area overlooking the Vale with views of High Rigg.

Car arrival: If using satnav enter the whole address, not just the postcode.  Take the M6 to Penrith (junction 40). Take the A66 towards Keswick. After about twelve miles turn left on the B5322 (signed Thirlmere). After three miles Fornside Farm is on the left. Ignore the first track. Continue for 400m then take a sharp left turn. Follow signs for Fornside Farm Cottages and collect key from Farmhouse (attached to the cottages).
