The perfect cottage for groups in gorgeous Muker village in the heart of Swaledale sheep farming country.
Bramble Bottom sleeps 10 in 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. It’s the perfect place to get away from it all with family or friends to stunning Swaledale and ideal for a milestone celebration! It's conveniently located in the middle of the country, so ideal for families or friends who live at each end of the UK. It is located around 45 minutes from both the A1 and M6.
Bramble Bottom enjoys a prime location in the centre of the picture postcard village of Muker with its fabulous Farmers Arms pub (only 2 minutes from the cottage), village store and tea room (next door to the cottage), excellent craft gallery and gift shop, Swaledale Woollens where locals knit gorgeous items using the local wool, the lovely St Mary's Church and the former Literary Institute which offers a fascinating exhibition of old photos of Muker as well as being the base the for the Muker Silver Band to practise.
There is fantastic walking and cycling from the doorstep amid stunning scenery with drystone walls, barns and heather moors. Children will love meeting Swaledale sheep, rabbits, hares, curlews and even llama trekking. Muker is famous for its wildflower meadows and in Spring and Summer, the meadows are ablaze with colour from over 100 varieties of wild flowers.
Bramble Bottom is an 18th century farmhouse which has been lovingly restored by its current owners to create a contemporary but cosy property efficiently heated by a renewable energy Biomass boiler and with underfloor heating on the ground floor and heated towel rails. Formerly the village post office and a draper's store, it is now a quirky upside down house on three floors - the top floor offers a highly convivial open plan lounge/kitchen/diner with cathedral type ceilings - which give a real sense of space - and a cosy wood burner. There is a stunning solid oak dining table - perfect for memorable meals - and a superbly equipped kitchen with even a wine chiller! Squishy sofas and window seats with stunning views of the surrounding countryside mean everyone is comfortable and relaxed. There is a large TV with sound bar and Sky freesat, DVD player and super fast wifi. It's a great place to spend quality time with friends or family and to just relax and unwind in a gorgeous setting.
The bedrooms lead off either side of the top floor and are all decorated along Swaledale themes - so we have the tranquil Heather room, the fun Swaledale Sheep room (adored by all ages!), the serene Waterfall room, the beautiful Muker Meadows room and the vibrant Tour de France room (perfect for keen cyclists). Bramble is ideal for a wide range of groups, offering flexible sleeping arrangements - the Sheep and Meadows room can be made up as either twin or super king beds. These rooms are both on the same floor and share the family bathroom so make a perfect family unit for parents and children. Grandparents can claim their own privacy and quiet zone by using the Waterfall and Tour de France rooms which are on the other side of the house! If four couples rent the cottage, they each have a room on its own floor and their own bathroom. Luxury crisp white bed linen and towels are included.
Outside space includes an enclosed patio with stunning views - we provide quality garden furniture and a Weber BBQ is available on request. The patio leads directly on to the small village green which guests are welcome to use. We even provide a quoits set for indoor and outdoor use - hours of fun guaranteed for everyone!
There is plenty to do in the area for all ages. There is a special children's walk and everyone will enjoy the walk across the stepping stones in the wildflower meadows down to the river Swale. The Kisdon Hill Circular walk is one of the Ramblers' top 50 walks in the UK and passes through Muker. The Pennine Way and Coast to Coast national trails are nearby and there is a myriad of walks for all levels from the doorstep. This is a very popular area for cycling. The Tour de France came past Bramble Bottom and the UCI Road Race Championships Men's Elite race in September 2019 will take the same route so our guests will enjoy prime position to view the race! For a more gentle ride, the new Swale Trail from Grinton (near Reeth) to Keld is a low level route designed for all the family to enjoy - you can even hire electric bikes from the Dales Bike Centre in Grinton where there is also a great cakery with showstopper cakes on Fridays!
The lovely village of Reeth is about nine miles from Muker and offers the Swaledale Museum, craft workshops and a fabulous ice cream parlour! The market town of Hawes is six miles away and offers the fantastic Wensleydale Creamery - home to Wallace and Gromit and where you can taste over 20 varieties of excellent cheese. The Dales Countryside Museum is well worth a visit and there are lots of independent shops along with a bank, post office and cash points. Take a great day out on the famous Settle Carlisle Railway crossing the iconic Ribble Viaduct. Swaledale is a paradise for bird and wildlife enthusiasts - you are likely to see red squirrels, curlews, grouse, rabbits, hares, pheasants, warblers, oystercatchers and many more. Bring your binoculars! The Forbidden Corner folly offers a weird and wonderful day out for all the family. As well as the wildflower meadows, this area is renowned for its heather moors and bluebells and you may also be lucky and see wild orchids. Waterfalls abound here and the excellent Keld Waterfall Walk (3 miles from Bramble) provides access to six gorgeous waterfalls within a two mile radius.
We welcome up to two medium sized dogs at Bramble and most local pubs and teashops (and some of the shops) are dog-friendly.
If you don't fancy cooking yourselves, there are plenty of great places to eat out. There is even a fish and chip van which visits Muker on a Friday evening. You can order takeaway pizzas from the Buck Inn in Reeth (though you do need to collect them, but a good excuse for a pint!) There are also local caterers who can provide meals delivered to the cottage (and served if you prefer). There is also a fabulous deli where you can order ready made meals and great cakes and puddings.
Our change over days are Fridays and Mondays. We offer short breaks of three night weekends starting Fridays and four night midweek breaks starting Mondays all year round except Christmas and New Year. Full weeks can start either Friday or Monday.
