Approached down narrow country lanes, Rosemoor is hidden in an lovely valley in the far south west of Pembrokeshire, within walking distance (just 2 miles) of St. Bride's Bay.
Formerly the seat of a large Victorian country estate, Rosemoor sits on a hill side, overlooking its own lake and woodlands, in the tiny hamlet of Walwyn's Castle, the few remains of which are within our 35-acre grounds. At Rosemoor you will find

  • spacious, comfortable, well-appointed, yet reasonably priced cottages
  • a perfect base to explore Pembrokeshire's many lovely beaches, the Coast Path and the islands, as well as its many places of interest
  • stunning views of the countryside around you: a true chance to experience the peace and quiet for which Pembrokeshire is renowned
  • a nature lovers' paradise on your doorstep: the Rosemoor Nature Reserve with its 5-acre lake boasts badgers, otters, orchids, other wild flowers and many species of birds
  • large grounds with safe (partly walled) gardens and an attractive playground
  • free roaming chickens
  • home cooked food available by pre-order
  • electric vehicle charging points (7.2 kW, type 2 connector)

We are popular with visitors who like to spend their spare time in unspoiled corners of the UK and like the fact of dark skies at night, not only for star gazing but also for the wildlife (badgers, owls and bats for example). The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean is a great attraction.

Your accommodation comes fully equipped, with your beds made. There is WiFi in the cottages, and a laundry on site.

Rose Cottage - our baby - is the smallest of our holiday cottages; sleeping two. In any other sense Rose is anything but small: it offers lots of space and great levels of comfort. It is very popular with our guests, so don't wait too long booking it, as it fills very early in the year.

Rose Cottage boasts a very modern - yet highly classical and stylish - bathroom and kitchen - with dishwasher. The bedroom has a king size bed, and there is an en-suite bathroom - with underfloor heating: lovely and warm when you step out of the shower.

The very light and pleasant large living room also has an underfloor-heated slate floor, and there is a wood burning stove for a cosy fire. From the living room big french doors open out onto the garden. In addition there is a window in the east wall, offering lovely rural views directly from the dining table. We feel all of this makes Rose Cottage into an absolute gem - something feedback from our guests very much confirms.

Please note that we cannot accept babies in cots in Rose Cottage.

First Cottage sleeps four (+ a baby in a cot) in very spacious accommodation indeed. With its large sunny sitting room and two family sized bedrooms it is very popular: many of our returning guests book it for next year just to be sure it will not be gone for the week they want to come again.

Like many of our cottages First Cottage has now been completely upgraded. The living room has an underfloor-heated slate floor, there is a wood burning stove, the kitchen has been renewed (slate worktops, modern, high quality appliances, with dishwasher present) and the bathroom has been renovated; again with underfloor heating. Classical tiling and stylish fixtures and fittings make for a very comfortable bathing experience.

The sitting room has an 8' wide full height window with a door to the garden. One of the bedrooms has a king size bed, and the other has two single beds.

First Cottage is one of three cottages at Rosemoor which we keep "pet free".

Peace Cottage is definitely one of our cosiest and most comfortable holiday cottages, equally popular with families and couples who want that little bit more space. It has, on your left when you enter, a very bright and sunny living room, with direct access, through french doors, to a patio and the garden. There is an open plan kitchen, like all which we have refurbished of high class and with high quality appliances, including a dishwasher. It has slate floors with underfloor heating in hallway, living room and kitchen. For additional cosiness the living room has a small woodburning stove as well. On the first floor the stylish bathroom (with a very roomy shower - no bath) and two bedrooms lead off from a very spacious and architecturally interesting landing. One bedroom has a king size bed and the second two singles, the cottage thus comfortably sleeping four.

If you are looking for accommodation for a small family group, an interconnecting door with neighbouring Apple Cottage can be opened, giving you a wealth of space and facilities (5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 lounges, for a total of 10 + 2 cots!).

Apple Cottage is most certainly one of our flagship holiday cottages. It has a very cosy living room with direct access to its own patio and the garden. At the far end of the living room is the galley shaped kitchen: open plan, so the cook is not cut off from the living room, but kitchen "mess" is largely invisible. Worktops are solid slate, and the high quality appliances include a dishwasher. Like Peace Cottage, Apple Cottage also has slate floors with underfloor heating in hallway, living room and kitchen and a woodburning stove in the living room.

Passing the kitchen there is a ground floor bedroom with a double bed and very roomy top-of-the-range en-suite bathroom with full disabled facilities, including a wheel-in shower, again underfloor-heated. Upstairs there is first a bedroom with two single beds, then a more compact second bathroom with shower over the bath, and finally the third, very spacious, bedroom with a kingsize bed. The cottage sleeps six. The ground floor is completely level, and the entrance is also constructed with wheelchair users in mind: there is only 15 mm of easy-access wheelchair-friendly sill to negotiate.

If you are looking for accommodation for a small family group, an interconnecting door with neighbouring Peace Cottage can be opened, giving you a wealth of space and facilities (5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, 2 lounges, for a total of 10 + 2 cots!).

Spring Cottage is one of the three cottages at Rosemoor which are "pet-free", the others being its next-door neighbour Orchard Cottage and First Cottage. It is a two-storeyed cottage, offering lots of space, comfort and luxury for two, plus a baby in a cot. From its windows downstairs it offers lovely views of the walled garden directly behind it, and wide vistas over the valley to the west from its first floor windows.

Spring has slate floors downstairs and a highly modern kitchen, with slate worktops and top-of-the-range appliances, including a dishwasher.

Upstairs there is a single very spacious bedroom, with a king size bed, and ample space for a cot, if required.
The bathroom boasts luxury fixtures and fittings, similar to those in other upgraded bathrooms at Rosemoor, and luxury high quality Victorian Style tiling, again like all other upgraded bathrooms at Rosemoor. Please note there is a shower, no bath.

Orchard Cottage - the third of our "pet-free" cottages - sleeps five in the luxury of three bedrooms: one has a double bed, the second a single, and the third two single beds. From Orchard, like Spring Cottage, one has a beautiful view of the walled garden, with the remains of the orchard that once covered part of it.

Orchard Cottage has slate floors downstairs and a modern new kitchen, with slate worktops and top-of-the-range appliances, including a dishwasher.

Like that of Spring, the bathroom has been remodelled, with luxury fixtures and fittings, high end Victorian Style tiling, and with a shower replacing the bath.

The Coach House is a wholly detached building, with a charmingly belfried roof. From the very spacious living room one can step out through large french doors onto its patio inside the walled garden, home also to our flock of free roaming chickens. The cottage has three bedrooms; one with a double bed, one with twin singles and a third (fairly narrow) one with a single bed.

The Coach House has been upgraded to the new Rosemoor standard. It has a high class kitchen with luxury appliances (including a dishwasher!), solid slate worktops, slate floors with very comfortable underfloor heating in living room and hallway and a wood burning stove for a cosy fire on the occasional chilly evening.

Please note that we cannot accept babies in cots in the Coach House.

Gardener's Cottage is the smallest of our wholly detached holiday cottages. Situated close to, but fully separated from, the Main House, in the old days it contained the lamp room for the house. The maids' sitting room was to be found where the present sitting room is. Upstairs were the trunk room, for the suitcases the Summers used when travelling abroad and a servant's bedroom, according to some used by the Estate Gardener, hence the name of the cottage. Its proximity to the main house does not impinge on its privacy. On the contrary, it is the most privately situated of all our cottages, being well away from the drive, any cars and/or people passing, and with its private patio.

Gardener's Cottage is approached down an old outside natural stone staircase, as can be seen in one of the photographs above.
From the kitchen end of the open plan sitting room an open-tread pine staircase first passes an intriguing little window looking down into the greenhouse and then ends in a little hallway, from which two bedrooms lead off: one contains a double bed and the other a single. The cottage thus sleeps three.

Gardener's Cottage has a top-of-the-range bathroom, with a very spacious shower, but no bath. At the back of the cottage - clad in slate - there is a spacious private patio - a veritable sun trap. The kitchen is finished to our standard high grade, and has a dishwasher. Living room and kitchen have slate floors with underfloor heating. Contrary to what one might expect, they are very light and airy, with windows on three sides.

This unit, in the East wing of the Main House, has only our office and stores beneath it; they are below ground level on the front elevation as shown in the photograph, so that Holly Tree is only seven steps up from the garden in front of it. In former days it used to house some of the estate staff. The then owners of Rosemoor didn't want to be too close to their servants' quarters: the wing projects out from the Main House, making Holly completely private, as if it were on its own. Holly Tree has been upgraded to what we think is a very high standard indeed. Holly offers a smart living room, with a warm wooden floor, a very comfortable heating system using heated walls, a luxury kitchen with top of the range appliances set in solid slate worktops and a woodburning stove for a cosy fire on the occasional chilly evening.

The dining area has a window looking north over the Lake and the Nature Reserve, and the sitting area has a large south-facing window with a lovely oblique view past the wall of Gardener's Cottage to the wooded valley down which Rosemoor Lake flows to the sea. To the left of the hallway there is a big bedroom, with a king size and a single bed, again with a view north to the Lake.

The very spacious bathroom is a pleasure to the eye and a joy to use, with its modern high grade fittings and decoration.

Please note that we cannot accept babies in cots in Holly Tree.

Additional Directions Information

Rosemoor is situated in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, in the small hamlet of Walwyn's Castle.
Most maps will indicate the location of Walwyn's Castle and Rosemoor itself is shown on the 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey Sheet No. 157 (St. David's and Haverfordwest) at grid reference SM876108.
Walwyn's Castle is just off the B4327 Haverfordwest - Dale Road; at six miles from Haverfordwest approximately equidistant between them.

Please note that streets have no names where we are, and that not all sat-nav systems know how to deal with this corner of Pembrokeshire. If you want to be sure to reach us, rather than to rely on yours, maybe it's best to follow the instructions below.

Otherwise, these are some details you may wish to load into your sat-nav system:
Post code: SA62 3ED (this covers a largish area, so may not work too well)
Grid reference: SM 876 108
Coordinates: 51°45'20.14"N 5°04'44.91"W.
By Car - Avoiding Haverfordwest

Most visitors come into South West Wales by way of the M4 Motorway. Where the M4 ends it will get you first onto the A48 and then onto the A40. On entering Haverfordwest from the A40 take the Milford Haven road exit from the second roundabout. You are then on the by-pass (Freemen's Way). At its far end take the second exit, again signposted Milford Haven. After only 100 yards, immediately before the railway bridge, take the right turn, signposted "Tiers Cross 3½ miles". Follow this road into and through Tiers Cross, taking the turn right, signposted "Walwyn's Castle", immediately before you reach the (new) roundabout. You are then on a long narrow lane, which, after approximately two miles, faces straight into the drive of Rosemoor.
By Car - Entering Haverfordwest

If you either wish or have to go into Haverfordwest, follow the signs for Broad Haven to the top of the town, where, on leaving the town, the road forks: straight on for Broad Haven, left for Dale.
Take the left hand fork, signposted "Dale". At the crossroads 4¾ miles from the fork turn left towards the crest of the hill (signposted "Walwyn's Castle"). At the junction which follows, turn left (signposted "Tiers Cross") and, after 100 yards, at Brook Cottage, do not continue straight on up the lane that joins here, but instead follow the road round the right hand bend - keeping Brook Cottage to your left. You now have the Rosemoor Nature Reserve on your right hand and you follow the lane up the hill until you come to a sharp 90-degree bend to the left, where you will find the main gate of Rosemoor on your right, on the outside of the bend.
By Train

Apart from school buses (which may be used by people of non-schoolgoing age as well) there are no regular bus services connecting Walwyn's Castle to the rest of the world. If notified some time in advance of your arrival we shall however be pleased to arrange a pick-up from Haverfordwest railway station. Likewise, on your day of departure a drop-off at the station can be arranged.

During your stay you may wish to use the services of the coastal buses, which in season can set you down and pick you up at various points along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path.
