Gore Cottage has been in and out of the family since the 1840's and stands on its own in its own secluded garden on the edge of West Milton; it is stone built with a thatched roof and porch. The countryside is ideal for walking and bird watching
It sleeps five, plus a cot: upstairs there are two double rooms, one with a double bed, the other with two singles, and a single room downstairs, which is the room with the telephone; the compact bathroom (with full sized bath and basin) and separate WC and wash basin are also downstairs. The kitchen is large enough to eat in and there is a separate sitting room with a multi-fuel stove. There is another WC in the thatched garden shed.
There is parking at the end of the lane and parking for a second car on the concrete apron. There is then a walk of about 100 yards along the footpath, across the foot bridge over the stream, to get to the cottage.
The cottage is fully equipped and all the appliances are electric: cooker, microwave, fridge and automatic washing machine. The electricity - light, heating and hot water - is included in the rent. There is a telephone. Pillows, blankets and eiderdowns NOT duvets, and bed linen and towels are provided.
There is a selection of books, maps and guide books in the cottage as well as cards, games and jigsaws.
The Dorset and East Devon coast, the Jurassic Coast, has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO; West Milton is five miles from the coast at West Bay, Bridport's harbour. Other beaches are at Burton Bradstock and Seatown, with Weymouth and Lyme Regis being further away; it was at Lyme Regis that Mary Anning made her ground breaking discoveries of fossils. Riding, fishing and golf are available in the area.
Places to visit include the gardens of Mapperton and Minterne, the Swannery at Abbotsbury, and houses such as Forde Abbey and Athelhampton. The housekeeper lives nearby, close to Milton Mill.
Change over day: Friday, but flexible due to Covid. Weekly rate from £350.00 to £1050.00.
