We are located 6 miles west of the small Cathedral City of Ripon - the "Gateway to the Yorkshire Dales". Between two small villages Galphay and Kirkby Malzeard. Up a short farm lane we offer a peaceful beautiful location yet close to shops and with many places to visit.

Pets welcome and with footpaths direct from the farm there are many local walks. (downloadable pdf on our website of circular walks on the farm   and cottage guide  )

 

Free WI FI - so you can keep in touch and yet find peace

Each cottage has its own rear individually fenced rear garden   which leads to a shared garden  and then a handgate into the field. 

Private farm lane for safe walks  - children on bikes etc 

Welcome for short breaks or for the full week  which can start on any day 

Within easy reach of most Yorkshire attractions, you'll encounter rolling green fields surrounding pretty market towns with cobbled squares; sheep, sheepdogs and sheepfairs; big skies and sweeping views; waterfalls, caves and craggy hillsides.

Being a small working farm - about 30 sheep and 50 beef cattle we are happy to show you our animals and take you on a guided tour. But because we are only small there is no machinery noise to disturb your stay.

All the cottages can take a Z bed   or cot    Granary has a chair Z bed in the bedroom  - suitable for child  Milkhouse a leather single chair bed in the lounge     Stable a small fold out bed in the bedroom - suitable for child 

High chairs and stair gates can be provided

Beautiful original Granary steps on the outside of the property give you clues into its original use   these steps now lead to the landing window not a door     some of the internal walls are the original stone  beautifully pointed  and cleaned     oak original barn beams in the bedroom 

 You can park right outside the front door to unload     

Rear door leads to Patio   and then onto your own private lawned open garden   (doggie and child safe)

a gate then leads to the shared garden   and a handgate to the open field 

lovely views over the valley Kirkby Church in the distance   and views to the West llok  onto  the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding natural beauty

Newly refurbished Archway with laminate wooden floors downstairs  has magnificent views from the huge archway style barn windows on both sides of the lounge. A barn conversion full of character yet with every comfort you should want.   Free Wifi so you can keep in touch if you want to!  or do you want to escape and chill?  Huge TV

Seperate oak kitchen with dishwasher  fan oven and halogen hob mean you can cook if you want to!  But local pubs serve good meals and the local butcher is excellent. a stair gate in the wide doorway  means you  can fasten this off from the lounge and keep small children safely in the lounge, or a wet dog in the kitchen by the radiator to dry off 

Double bedroom and twin bedded room  both feature the tip of the archway windows giving a unique floor window and adding character     standard opening window too . Bathroom with bath and over bath shower. This is our only cottage with a bath  -  our others have  walk in shower cubicles

Patio area leading to your own private garden with handgate leading to larger shared garden    and another gate into the back field   from which you can join a footpath to the village  Barbecue available. Parking just outside the cottage to unpack then on parking area twenty yards away .   Can take an extra person on z bed.   in either bedroom   Or child in cot £20 extra

Archway cottage gets its name from the huge archway barn windows front and back   flooding the cottage with light and enabling you to enjoy the views whatever the weather   the top of the archway being on the bedroom floor  

Seperate kitchen   with  ceramic electric hob  fan oven  and dishwasher  fridge with tiny ice compartment  (stair gate can keep dogs in/out or young children away from a hot cooker 

Wooden floor   new in December 2019 

Two Bedrooms  one double and one twin    both with enough floor space for a cot   or one  z bed (£20) 

Bathroom with bath   its our only cottage with a bath     shower at the end of the bath 

You can park right outside to unpack   then the parking area is just twenty yards away     rear doors lead to Patio  and fenced lawned garden   private for you      then gate to shared garden and hand gate to open fields

Leather setee and also a single bed setee chair downstairs in the lounge so it can take an extra guest  (£20)  Its Barker and Stonhouse withe quite a thick matress and very comfortable      it can go under the open plan stairs  so you dont have to fold it up each day 

Rear patio and fenced rear garden   which leads to a second shared large garden then open fields

Exposed stone walls in the bedroom   and on one of the bathroom walls add to its individual character

car arrival: West Leas Farm is situated about 6 miles out of Ripon, between the villages of Galphay and Kirkby Malzeard. from the A1 Northbound Take the Ripon / Boroughbridge exit A1(M) - Junction48. from the A1 Southbound Leave the A1 at Junction 50 - A61 to Ripon. Continue out of Ripon and continue following the brown  signs for Fountains Abbey (B6265). You will soon pass Tate's garden centre on the right. Turn right immediately - signposted Kirkby Malzeard and Galphay. Continue for 4 miles into Galphay, past The Galphay Inn and leave village  bearing  left for 1/4 mile, until you reach a triangular junction with a post box. Turn right, West Leas Farm is 500 yards on the right. look out for the Farmstay sign.  And Caravan and Mortorhome sign   (5 vans) We are the only farm up that short tarmacced lane.

Sat Nav will bring you to Warren Lane   about five farms share the same postcode. They usually stop you outside Warren House.  West Leas is the only farm up a farm lane- on a sweeping corner. You can't see the farmhouse from the road. Farmstay sign at the lane end- lane only about 800 yards

Extras

All of the cottages can take a cot or one z bed   £20 extra 

 We have high chairs   and stair gates - stair gates provided for dogs as well as children  as we ask that dogs are kept downstairs  

And the general rule is that dogs muct not be left unattended in the cottages 

Doggie charge is  £2   per pet  per day 

Archway and Milkhouse and Stable have wooden floors downstairs    Byre and Granary carpeted 

Only Archway has a bath  with shower over it    others have only  showers 

Excellent local butcher and we can take an order from you and it will be ready to collect on arrival day or can be delivered to your door  Tim @highsidebutchers   Kirkby Malzeard 

Galphay Inn   or Queens Head  Kirkby Malzeard   both within a mile  and footpaths from the farm   laminated map provided 

Excellent fish and chip shop and pizzas @kirkbyfisheries
