Read more about Birchill Farm & Cottages

Birchill Farm & Cottages sits amongst 8 acres of green pasture and ancient oak woodlands. Our grounds also feature a wildlife pond and an open meadow leading to the stream.

Your holiday starts with a complimentary Devon cream tea upon arrival and the following morning join Farmer Carolyn, Tamzin or Libby feeding our friendly donkeys, alpacas, pigs, ducks, chickens, geese, pigmy goats and rabbits. Collect the eggs from our free range chickens and enjoy one for your breakfast. Explore our fully enclosed, farm-themed outdoor play area or take a walk around our magical woodland, wandering along the zig-zag paths.  You might even spot some fairies and gnomes hiding amongst the trees on the fairy walk to the stream.

We also have a tractor shed, with lots of ride-on toys, a games room and an indoor play barn ideal for those odd rainy days.

We know how stressful going on holiday with babies and toddlers can be, so we designed and equipped our cottages to make your family holiday as relaxing as possible. All cottages have their own private gardens and have been finished and furnished to a high standard with all the comforts of home.

Each cottage has a selection of books, toys and games and we also have a selection of baby and toddler equipment for you to borrow free of charge - just let us know what you need.

Major supermarkets will deliver to Birchill Farm so you may pre-order groceries or pre-order a Birchill Farm welcome hamper containing a selection of delicious locally sourced foods for you to enjoy as a light meal after your journey, together with the necessary ingredients for a hearty breakfast the following day.

We are ideally positioned for access to all of North Devon’s attractions. There is so much to do in the local area, you’ll be spoilt for choice. From walking along North Devon’s dramatic coastline to feasting on fresh, local produce or wondering at the rugged beauty of Exmoor to name but a few. There is an abundance of picturesque seaside villages to explore and miles of golden beaches to build sandcastles on. Not only that, there are intriguing art galleries, craft centres and museums to visit and fabulous local restaurants to dine in.

Additional Directions Information

Direction 1 From the M5:

Leave the M5 at junction 27 and head for South Molton. Go through the town to pick up signs for Torrington (B3227). When you get into Umberleigh, turn right after you cross the bridge (by the Rising Sun) and follow the road for approximately 1/3 of a mile before turning left on to the B3227 for Torrington. Follow this road until you reach Torrington.

Go straight through Torrington as if heading for Bideford. As you leave Torrington, you’ll see a turning on the left for Langtree (B3227) opposite a car park for Torrington Commons. Take that turning; we are exactly three miles along that road. The road will take you across a bridge and through a village called Taddiport. Stay on this road (B3227) for a further 2 miles, you will cross a little bridge near the Tarka Trail (Watergate) car park. About 100 yards further you cross another little bridge and begin to climb uphill.

As you go up the hill, you’ll see farm buildings on your right – Homelea Farm. The turning for Birchill Farm is directly opposite. We’re about 1/5 of a mile down a concrete lane – there’s a slate sign telling you that you’ve arrived!

Please call at the farmhouse (the first house on the left at the end of the drive) and we will show you to your cottage.

Direction 2 From the M5:

Leave the M5 at junction 27 and head for Barnstaple on the A361 (about 35 miles). At the roundabout approaching Barnstaple take the first exit towards Bideford (A39). Follow the A39 for about 8 miles. At traffic lights approaching Bideford take filter lane (right turn) and at next roundabout take first exit. At next (mini) roundabout take right turn across Bideford Old Bridge and then first exit at mini roundabout. Continue along A386 towards Torrington.

At Landcross turn left onto A388. Follow A388 to Frithelstockstone and turn left into Hele Lane. At junction turn right onto B3227.

From Holsworthy

From Holsworthy (South-West): Drive through Holsworthy town and go straight on at the roundabout as you leave the town centre (A388). Follow this road to Stibb Cross and continue straight on (road becomes B3227) to Langtree. Stay on B3227 - drive through Langtree towards Torrington. Birchill Farm is approximately 1 mile from the outskirts of Langtree.

After a left turn signposted ‘Southcott’ you will see ‘Homelea’ farm buildings on the left hand side of the road. The entrance to Birchill Farm is on the right hand side of the road directly opposite these farm buildings. Follow the concrete lane for about 1/5 of a mile and– there’s a slate sign telling you that you’ve arrived!

Please call at the farmhouse (the first house on the left at the end of the drive) and we will show you to your cottage.
