Dog friendly cottages with enclosed gardens and dog paddocks. Barn conversions set in open countryside with stunning views over the North York Moors National Park and the Howardian Hills National Landscape.

Surrounded by farmland and open countryside, Sproxton Hall Cottages are barn conversions hidden away down a private lane and have stunning views over the Howardian Hills National Landscape and the North York Moors National Park. Feel away from it all in our tranquil setting but close enough to ramble into the bustling dog friendly market town of Helmsley where you will find a castle, walled garden, heated open air swimming pool and the National Centre for Birds of Prey. Helmsley welcomes visitors year round and has numerous independent shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants (many are dog friendly) and a micro-brewery. Helmsley is also the start of the Cleveland Way and close to Rievaulx Abbey.

All cottages (apart from Ryedale) welcome dogs and have new enclosed gardens. Dogs love the two exercise paddocks and relaxing in front of the log burners after a busy day walking the moors, dales, and forest trails or stretching their paws at North Yorkshire's heritage coastline.

A great base for exploring the best of the North York Moors National Park, The Yorkshire Dales, York, Castle Howard and Whitby. Popular with couples and families throughout the year, guests choose our cottages for relaxation and fresh air, for walking and cycling, and for catching up with friends and family. Cottages can be booked as a group for low-key family celebrations and reunions, or individually for a relaxing retreat. Individual cottages sleep 4 or 5 guests in 2 or 3 bedrooms, 17 guests in total. Dogs holiday for free - 3 are welcome in both Bilsdale and Kirkdale Cottages and 2 in Riccal Dale Cottage.

Featuring exposed stone walls, wooden beams and other original features from their time as farm buildings, the cottages offer a cosy and unique setting for your holiday.  Get some fresh air and enjoy the outdoor seating and gardens, with BBQ areas, games lawn and picnic tables.

Our enclosed dog exercise paddocks are perfect for dogs to run free.  Relax on the paddock seating and admire the view whilst tiring your dogs out off the lead.  Dog owners love the large space and the freedom it provides; dogs are less keen on our dog shower.  The outdoor shower is also perfect for muddy bicycles and boots.  Sproxton Hall Cottages are surrounded by actively farmed land (so expect the sights, sounds and smells of the countryside), plus the local woodland is home to deer, pheasants, and at least one barn owl.

Guests love to ramble into Helmsley over picturesque fields, go hiking on the Cleveland Way or stroll from the cottages into the National Landscape and National Park. Foodies love the country walk to Harome and its world class restaurants/bar. Our dark skies setting is perfect for star gazing on a clear night.

An EV Type 2 charger is available, plus on site parking.

Located within the Howardian Hills National Landscape the cottages are perfect for relaxing in a unique historic setting. With countryside walks on the doorstep,. The cottages have on site parking for up to 2 vehicles per cottage. Guests approaching from York often call in at Castle Howard en route to the cottages. Approaching from the A1, why not visit Fountain's Abbey near Ripon or the Herriot Experience in Thirsk.

There is very limited public transport and you will need a car in order to reach and enjoy the cottages and local area.  There is parking for up to 2 cars per cottage. There are train services to York (mainline from London in about 2.5 hours), Thirsk and Malton (both approx 13 miles away). Car hire can be arranged in advance at York station.  Local taxis should be booked in advance for nights out in Helmsley but we are only a 1.5 mile drive away.

From the A170 Thirsk to Scarborough road, at the Duncombe Park (arched gate way/sharp corner), turn right for Malton/York.  Sproxton is a few hundred metres from the A170 - you will see a small church.  Turn left immediately after the church and drive through the village (new 20mph speed limit).  Keep going past the stone pillars and on to the private road. After a field or two, take the first right on to our drive way. The gate is signposted Sproxton Hall Cottages/ Bransdale Cottage. We are the only property on the right and are just before Sproxton Hall Farm and the flag pole on the left. Guests are welcome to unload in the courtyard before parking in the parking area back down the drive.

The cottages are popular with cyclists, runners and walkers - getting around using your own steam means you can see the best of Yorkshire's scenery at your own pace. There's a picturesque bridleway from the doorstep so you can leave your car behind.
