Film and TV Locations in Dorset
Over the years, Dorset has provided the setting for a variety of productions, ranging from period drama to cookery programmes. We’ve listed here the most recent film & TV locations in Dorset, but there are many others.
The brilliant Wolf Hall TV series was mainly filmed in Wiltshire but it did use some locations in Dorset, including Sherborne Abbey and the National Trust’s Montacute House. Far from the Madding Crowd was a hit for all Thomas Hardy fans with the Dorset landscape playing a key part, alongside the Jacobean Mapperton House and Sherborne Abbey.
Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage cookery series originated just outside Bridport. Although it’s now gone over the border into Devon, there is still plenty of involvement with different locations in Dorset.
Another two films that are worth a mention are Tamara Drewe, shot in and around Salway Ash, and From Time to Time starring Dame Maggie Smith filmed at Athelhampton House.
