Recommended eating, drinking & shopping:
The village tearooms are a few minutes walk to this tiny tea room just past the Walnut tree. Amy does good coffee, light lunches and cakes. There is outside seating as well.
Pubs:
- Closest pub: The Walnut tree; good pub food within walking distance.
- Cosiest pub – very popular, good pub food; Checkers Laddingford.
- Simple pub food, also very popular with locals: Woolpack Benover. Often does live music on Saturday nights, our slightly excentric vicar father Paul plays there often with his band: www.thedevilscutcombo.com (the first person on the left).
- Nice setting next to the river: the boathouse Good pub (slighty chainy) food.
Curry house:
- Closest curry (does delivery): Zarda www.zardacottage.co.uk - walking distance – just before the bridge. `BRING YOUR OWN BOOZE` to this good value curry house (no corkage fee) and service has always been very good.
- Khan Spice in East Peckham. Also delivers.
More restaurant than a pub:
- Tickled trout in West Farleigh: Good food, interesting menu (as the name suggests has fish on menu) on the other side of Yalding Hill. Great country walk to get there!
- The Poet at Matfield: Michelin recognized gastropub. Pricey but excellent food!
- The Stilebridge in Marden: sister restaurant from the Poet, more casual and better value.
- Tipis at Yalding gardens: `pop up` restaurant at the wonderful `gardens wedding venue`. Lovely food in a rustic setting – only open outside the summer season but well worth checking out!
Farm shops:
- Farmer's Farm shop in Teston. Excellent quality local fruit, veg, cheeses and meats etc.
- Haywards Butcher & Farm shop in Hadlow. Excellent produce as well, with a lovely selection of meats, and oven dishes made on site, also sells alcohol.
- `POST OFFICE EMPORIUM`, our tiny Yalding post office is run by Tim & June, village stalwarts. The `Emporium` shop – with a touch of irony – has a surprisingly interesting collection of locally made gift ideas etc. Also sells pastries, snacks & drinks. Well worth popping in & have a browse when you are discovering the village.
- VILLAGE STORE: The Orchard view store in the village has the basics. On Benover road, just past the George pub.
- SUPERMARKETS: Sainsbury's & Asda have the best last-minute delivery slots available for our area (but your favourite supermarket will also deliver). Other supermarkets are around, Waitrose Paddock wood is the closest.
- COFFEE & TEA: we supply a small selection of both to get you started. The coffee machines use Tassimo-style pods.
- TAXI: Yalding taxis are often used by our guests: Mike is the owner & main driver: 01622 814343. It is a very busy local firm – don't delay booking.
