At Airhouses there is so much to see and do, both on the farm and in the local area. We are only 30 miles from Edinburgh and all it has to offer but if you are looking for a more rural experience that we definetly cater to that! We have over 300 acres of farmland, with the lodges placed carefully to ensure privacy and space. We have the meadow below the lodges that is always free of livestock for you to explore, play ball games in or walk the dog.  There are a number of fenced walks around the farm so you can see the farm animals safely, one takes you to one of our flight ponds where you can look for frogs and see the dragonflies.  There is also a treasure trail with clues to find and work out that takes you down to the village and back.

On the farm we have a number of animals that just love to say hello, including Dylan and Lily our Donkeys, Bob, Grace, Fred and Marshmallow the Goats, 7 Shetland ponies, 2 alpacas, three very fluffy sheep, and lots of chickens! We have Playden for under 7s full of toys and a willow den to play in. We have a small farm shop and a pop up coffee shop open on the weekends.

If you want to venture into the Scottish Borders there are market towns to explore, Abbeys to visit, world renowed mountain biking and fishing to try, not to mention adventure playgrounds, castles, historic houses and the wonderful countryside and River Tweed to explore.  Find out more about the wonders of the local area on our website here

Additional Directions Information

By Road

The simplest way to reach Airhouses is by car and there is plenty of parking. If you put in our postcode you will be taken the wrong way. If you put in the post code TD2 6PY you will come up the road straight from the village of Oxton and as the road levels out, you will see a purple sign. Turn right at this sign, over a cattle grid and follow the farm road for 1 mile.

We are situated 2 miles off the A68, half an hour south of Edinburgh. The nearest village is Oxton, and the nearest small town is Lauder. Directions from the North and the South from the A68 are downloadable from the bottom of the page.
By Train

The nearest main line station is Edinburgh Waverley (40 minutes drive from Airhouses). There is a fast, regular service from London (4 hours 20 minutes) using Virgin East Coast. This was formerly the route of the Flying Scotsman.

There is now a regular train service from Edinburgh into the Scottish Borders, The Waverley Line. This train stops at a few stations on the way and the nearest to use is either Gorebridge or Stow. It then continues to Galashiels and Tweedbank.

There are various car hire companies at Edinburgh or Enterprise Car Hire in Galashiels. Enterprise will collect you from the station and take you to your hire car.

Alternatively, taxis are available from the various stations but best to book in advance. For Stow, Galashiels or Tweedbank, 01896 756789 (5Star Taxis), Bordoor2door.com on 0748 6626484 for pick up Stow, and if there are 8 of you or more, then Lauderdale Coaches on 07815 311667.
By Plane

Edinburgh Airport is to the west of Edinburgh and is a 40 minute drive. Lots of hire car companies at the Airport. There is no rail link yet but the Airlinke 100 service runs 24 hours and calls at Waverley Station, where you can then get a train to the Borders.

Glasgow Airport is about an hour and half drive from Airhouses. Short taxi journey takes you to Paisley Gilmour Street station for a train into Edinburgh Waverley, then onwards into the Borders or hire a car at Edinburgh. Alternatively, the main M8 goes directly past Glasgow Airport making it an easy drive via the M8, then the A720 (Edinburgh ByPass) to the A68 and Airhouses.

Newcastle Airport is on the north side of Newcastle and under a 2 hour drive from Airhouses. Driving is straighforward and relatively quiet roads. There are numerous car hire companies at the Airport.
By Ferry

There are regular ferry services into the ports of Newcastle and Hull – check with DFDS Seaways and P&O ferries for further details. If you are coming from Northern Ireland, there is also a service from Belfast to Cairnryan with Stena Line, as well as P&O ferries between Larne and Cairnryan or Troon. After arriving at these ports, you can travel on to the Scottish Borders by road, with the journey time being around four hours from Hull, three hours from Cairnryan and about an hour and a half from Newcastle. Car Hire Facilities are at all the ports.
