Map Additional Directions Information The farm land, in which the Shepherds Hut sits, is overlooked by the Radnor Forest, situated in the historic county of Radnorshire. The Forest pathways and walks are easily accessible by a short 650m walk up the no through road and into the Forest. The Radnor Forest comprises 3000 acres of wild upland, if considering its 1461 definition. Things may have changed and moved on from then but it is still made up of the same steep gullies and heights. The highest point reaching 660 meters (2165ft), Great Rhos with a trig point and Black Mixen with a communications mast. There is a beautiful waterfall on the Eastern side called Water Break-it’s-neck, which can be accessed via a small car park in Warren’s Wood. There are two further car parks to the North and East that also allows public access to the Forest. Presteigne, the nearest town has a small number of shops including hairdressers, butchers, florist, pharmacy, Spar, a bike shop, pubs, a chippy, Chinese takeaway, cafes and the historical visitors attraction The Judges Lodgings. There is very limited public transport so a vehicle to get out and explore the local area, beyond the walks, is a must. The nearest town of Presteigne is 5 miles away. Presteigne is jointly with New Radnor, the former county town, of the historic county of Radnorshire. Being a boarder town it’s motto is Gateway to Wales. There is are small Supermarkets in the two market towns of Knighton and Kington. Both are around 9 miles away. Further afield, the closest large supermarket is in the Spa town of Llandrindod Wells. Llandrindod Wells and Builth Wells are both around a 30 minute drive. Further afield is the market town of Rhayader. Just beyond Rhayader, is the wonderful Elan Valley.
