Details

Near Looe and Polperro, Polean Farm offers charming, quality cottages with animal feeding, pony and tractor rides. We are just two miles from a safe, sandy beach.

Polean Farm is located down green lanes off the Looe to Polperro road, just outside the village of Pelynt. The farm is set amongst rolling farmland and is less than 2 miles from a safe sandy beach . The coastline from Looe to St Austell has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, providing stunning views and fantastic coastal walks. The 18th century former barns have been converted into spacious, comfortable and tastefully decorated cottages (each with their own unique character) set around a pretty courtyard.

All cottages are certified to Visit Britain 4star standard , plus the farm has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor for receiving consistently excellent reviews (these are awarded to just the top 10% of self catering properties).

Children will enjoy the playground and indoor playroom, along with the toy tractors that they can ride around the new tractor area. They will also love helping feed the animals with the legendary farmer Keith each weekday morning and will look forward to the pony or tractor rides after the animal feeds.

Couples can enjoy a free luxury hamper upon arrival (plus other special offers – see below) and can look forward to visiting the many great local pubs and restaurants , the amazing countryside and coastal walks or just relaxing in front of a warm log fire.

Guests with dogs are offered a days free dog sitting while they visit local attractions like the Eden Project, plus there are many dog friendly beaches, pubs and cafes in the area (not to mention some fantastic walks through the countryside or along the coastal path).

    The Old Farmhouse
  • image description
    Sleeps 10
  • £1890 - £2400 per week

The Old Farmhouse is one of eight cottages on Polean Farm, with guests able to use all of the facilities on the farm . Your children and toddlers will love joining us each week day morning to pet the guinea pigs and help get them out of their cages, plus help to bottle feed the lambs (seasonal) and hand feed the pigmy goats and chickens. The children can also collect the eggs from the chickens and then carry them home for breakfast! Following the animal feeding we then offer either a tractor ride behind our little red tractor, or a ride on Noah the Shetland pony.

The Old Farmhouse is a charming historical farmhouse which has been tastefully renovated to provide spacious and comfortable accommodation for up to twelve people in five bedrooms (maximum occupancy is up to 9 adults, a child and two infants, or 8 adults, 2 children and two infants). The Old Farmhouse has a massive kitchen, two lounges (plus two TV’s and two log burners). It also has its own Wi-Fi.

With its own private south facing garden, large patio area and parking for up to 3 cars the old farmhouse is perfect for a large family get together or for two families to holiday together.

The heart of the farmhouse is the massive family kitchen, with a large dining table , island workbench / breakfast bar and with doors out to the rear garden. The kitchen has a small sofa and benches for relaxing. It also has a vaulted beamed ceiling and is always flooded with light from the ten glass doors and windows. The kitchen was originally used for parking the farm tractors and you can still see the exposed stone of the old farmhouse wall and even the back of the clay bread oven that was once used to bake bread for the family. The kitchen now has all the modern conveniences to make your stay as comfortable as possible, including a double range oven (with 5 gas hobs, a hot plate and two ovens), microwave , dishwasher, fridge, kettle, toaster, double sink and a 50 inch TV. Off the kitchen is a small utility room with a large American style fridge freezer. For those staying in winter the kitchen also has a log burning stove (though it is not needed as the central heating is more than adequate).

From the kitchen there are double doors through into the wide corridor and from there doors lead into the two lounges and the downstairs bedroom.

The main lounge is beautifully furnished and has a 42inch TV, with a DVD player and a Freeview satellite player and recorder box.

From the main lounge , double doors take you through to the small lounge, which offers a peaceful seating area. The small lounge was once the kitchen for the farmhouse and still has the original stone hearth and bread ovens built into the 4ft thick wall. The room now has a log burner fitted, which is perfect for sitting in front of during winter evenings.

Upstairs the Farmhouse has four good size bedrooms. The main bedroom has a king size bed and an en-suite shower room (with a double width shower). The second bedroom has a kings size bed, The third bedroom has a double bed and the fourth bedroom has a three quarter bed (with room for one adult or two children). There is room for a cot in the first or second bedrooms. Upstairs there is also a shared bathroom with a double width shower and a separate bath.

The fifth bedroom is downstairs, off the main hall. It has a single bed, with room for a second fold away bed if required. There is also a downstairs toilet (accessible via reception), making the downstairs bedroom suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Additional Directions Information

From Exeter, you are best following the A38 to Plymouth – then across the Tamar bridge. At the first roundabout go straight across (PS. their is a large Waitrose just off the 3rd exit of this roundabout – if you want to stop for afew goodies). Follow the A38 until you come to the 2nd roundabout about eight or nine miles after the Tamar bridge (it is just after a low railway bridge and has an Edinburgh Woolen Mill just before the roundabout ). You take the first exit off this roundabout down the A374- following the signs for Looe (there is another right turn after about a mile up the A387).

Once you get to Looe, cross the bridge and then continue on the A387 heading for Polperro. After about two miles you will pass West Waylands Caravan Park and there is a red phone box on your left. You then need to take the next right turn down the A3359 to Pelynt. Take this turn and stay on the main road for three quarters of a mile. After three quarters of a mile the road bends to the right and there are two lanes off this bend on the left hand side. Our lane is the 2nd one (there is a sign saying Polean Farm , but it is just after the turn). Follow this lane for about a mile to the Farm.

BE WARNED – IF YOU FOLLOW YOUR SAT NAV ONCE YOU GET OFF THE A38, THEN IT IS LIKELY TO TAKE YOU A ‘SHORT CUT’ DOWN SOME NARROW LANES (SCENIC BUT WINDY). STICK TO THE MAIN ROADS AS DETAILED ABOVE IF POSSIBLE.

ALSO – MAKE SURE YOUR SATNAV IS NOT SET TO AVOID TOLL ROADS – AS THE TAMAR BRIDGE IS A TOLL BRIDGE (THOUGH ONLY WHEN YOU LEAVE CORNWALL) – AND THE BEST ROUTE TO US IS ACROSS THE BRIDGE.

FINALLY – IF YOUR SATNAV TAKES YOU OFF THE MAIN ROAD UP PAST THE SPAR IN PELYNT, THEN PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU CANNOT GET TO US THIS WAY (IT IS A GREEN LANE, SO YOU NEED A LAND ROVER !). GO BACK TO THE MAIN ROAD AND HEAD UP THE HILL PAST THE JUBILEE PUB (YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE A LEFT OUT OF THE SPAR THEN DO A U-TURN AT THE CHURCH). wE ARE THE NEXT TURN ON THE RIGHT AFTER YOU HAVE LEFT THE VILLAGE (ASSUMING THE JUBILEE PUB WAS ON YOUR LEFT!).

Enjoy your journey (and don’t worry we are no that hard to find!).
