The start of the school summer holidays may be closing in yet the opportunity to take a Farm Stay UK family break in the British countryside is still wide open. Two newly renovated barns offer spacious living areas whilst outside the pretty cottage gardens are teaming with wildlife. Little ones will adore meeting friendly farm animals and bouncing on the trampoline and the Suffolk Heritage Coast (Southwold and Aldeburgh) is just a short car ride away. The area is ideal for exploring on two wheels, with plenty of boutique shops and cafés for a well deserved rest along the way. Should British weather strike, a jam-packed games room at the farm provides the perfect shelter.

Alpacas, Shetland Ponies and just 30 minutes from Edinburgh – Airhouses, Scottish Borders

Five lodges and a new glamping pod for two share the vast 600+ acres of farmland and make a spectacular spot for a family holiday at Airhouses. Each lodge has an outdoor hot tub and plastic glasses are provided to encourage cocktails (or mocktails) to enhance the experience! Keep an eye out for wildlife by day or night – deer, foxes, badgers and barn owls are your nearest neighbours here - well apart from the onsite Alpacas, Shetland Ponies and Toffee the Llama. Children will love the treasure trail and farm walks from the lodges and the chance to walk the Shetland Ponies. Down(time) on the Farm near The Jurassic Coast - Smallicombe Farm, East Devon

Smallicombe Farm near Honiton is in an idyllic rural setting between Lyme Regis and Sidmouth. On this small working farm with rare breeds of pigs, flock of sheep, Devon suckler cows and free range ducks and chickens are four self-catering cottages. The stone cottages and farmhouse B&B are in 70 acres of pasture and woodland situated in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. This is a place to stay still, chill out and enjoy rural tranquillity at its best. However, it may prove hard not to venture out as East Devon is a bit of a hidden gem with a stunning Jurassic coastline and fishing villages such as Beer and Branscombe and the wonderful elegant coastal towns of Lyme Regis and Sidmouth.

Seaside, Bird Watching and Fishing – Earls Hall Farm, Essex

Just two miles from the traditional Essex seaside town of Clacton-on-Sea this working farm welcomes guests to Pond House for Bed & Breakfast at the Victorian farmhouse with its large garden of herbaceous borders, a large pond and a woodland area where guests can wander and relax. Next door Pond Cottage offers self-catering in a comfortable, well equipped cottage, with a double and a twin room – perfect for a family. This mainly arable farm is great for bird watching and with its own fishing lake and reservoir there is plenty for anglers. For a slice of classic British holiday culture head to the Essex Sunshine for Clacton’s colourful Floral Seafront Gardens, Fish and Chips and fun-packed piers.

Surf, Sandcastles and Sports Barn– West Woolley Farm, Bude, Cornwall

This small farm is home to a clutch of self-catering barns on the North Devon/Cornwall border and just two miles from the wild stretch of coast between Hartland and Bude. If holidays are about sand, sea and simple pleasures then they are all here in spades. Spend the morning feeding the sociable farm goats, pigs and sheep and collecting eggs from the chickens, hit the nearby beaches for surf and sandcastle building in the afternoon and if the weather doesn’t behave retreat to the sports barn for shooting hoops, football, ride-ons for the toddlers and a climbing wall.
