Saddle up for farm-to-farm cycle breaks this summer with Farm Stay UK

July brings the ultimate bike buzz to Europe as the Tour de France takes over for most of the month and cycle fans plug into the world’s most demanding of races. While the pros endure thigh burning climbs up into the Alps, Farm Stay UK is launching a new campaign focused on cycling called ‘Tour de Farm’.  Initially comprising two new suggested week long cycling holidays, ‘Tour de North’ and ‘Tour de East’, the collection will expand over the coming months to encompass more areas with suggestions on how to combine staying on a farm with some incredible days out exploring the British countryside on two wheels.

Farm Stay UK is the UK’s only farmer owned consortium offering over a 1,000 rural accommodation.  Tour de Farm aims to encourage families, couples and groups of friends of all cycling inclinations, to get on their bike.  Many Farm Stay members offer cycle perks such as secure bike storage, delivery of hire bikes, pressure washing, maps and even bike-themed interiors! There’s even an option to stay near Latitude Festival in Suffolk and cycle in for the day.

Both tours are presented in ‘stages’ which can be undertaken by cycling the full route or driving from one spot to the next to enjoy the cycling around each Farm Stay UK accommodation site.  Each stage consists of a beautiful accommodation option, local attractions and highlights plus what to see on the way and route information on how to get there.  The routes are designed to be self-guided, with both tours detailed on the Farm Stay website.

Tour de North is a circular route taking in the Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors.  Starting at the Crown Cottage in the market town of Skipton, the first leg of the cycle trip heads straight through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale AONB arriving in Northallerton four-five hours later. If driving, there is plenty to see on the way including warerfalls, breweries and cheese shops.  Stay at Lovesome Hill B&B a working farm in the peaceful countryside which offers bike storage as well as a pressue wash for bike cleaning and after a couple of days exploring the Way of the Roses Cycle Route and Morrs National Park, head to Layhead Farm Cottage in Settle for a final Farm Stay UK stop. This last route is the longest at six hours but there is plenty to take in on the way cycling through the heart of the Dales. On arrival there are various cycle routes on the doorstep plus off road cycling in Gisburn Foren, tandem riding, tramper bikes and electric bikes which can be delivered to your cottage.

A week Tour de Farm North trip costs £400 for two people on a B&B and self catering basis.

Tour de East is a one way route from the North Nolfok coast to the Broads and into Suffork. Over the space of a week enjoy three very different Farm Stay UK accommodation options whilst taking in East Anglia’s beautiful scenery and cycling its flat terrain. Kick things off at the eco-chic Cranmer Country Cottages and make use of the lockable cycle stores for bikes and a selection of local maps to get you going. If driving the route then a range of bikes are available to hire from the cottages, making the nearby beaches accessable after a gentle hour cycling. The first cycle leg heads 50 miles south east to Wheatacre Hall Barns, a working arable and dairy farm where guests can explore wild farmland, meet friendly farm animals or explore off road tracks and the neighbouring quiet lanes (bikes available to hire). The second and final cycle stint heads 15 miles south to the pretty village of Cratfield in North Suffolk. Here School Farm Cottages offer the perfect rural cycling base.

A week Tour de Farm East trip costs £817 for two people staying in self catering cottages.

Tour de Farm offers cycling adventure for all ages and is a great week long holiday option for those looking for a staycation with some action. In-between cycling the routes, guests can enjoy plenty of hands on farming activities, beautiful accommodation and lots of fresh and local food delights.
