Bishop Auckland is set to explode into life in 2016 as Eleven Arches present Kynren - an epic tale of England. The eagerly awaited £31 million open-air live action night show will open on 2nd July 2016, and will be rolled out as 14 action-packed and movie-like performances of colossal and dazzling proportions across the summer.
Set in the shadow of majestic Auckland Castle in the Vale of Durham, the shows will be presented by 1,000 cast and crew. Kynren will take audiences on a 90 minute epic storytelling journey through 2000 years of British history through the eyes of the North East. The shows will be performed on a 7½ acre stage incorporating a full size lake, with pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects all part of the mix - this will be a spectacle in the true sense of the word!
Eleven Arches, the organisation behind the show, entered into an artistic partnership with Puy du Fou (www.puydufou.com), and this is the first time ever its volunteer-led enterprise has been taken outside of France.
What does Kynren mean?
The name ‘Kynren’, echoes the Anglo Saxon word ‘cynren’ meaning ‘generation, kindred, family’. Eleven Arches feel it’s a fitting name for a story that is about a heritage that spans multiple generations, that generations of volunteers will be involved over the years to come and the experience will be shared by audiences of all ages.
When is the first show?
Kynren – An epic tale of England will be premiered on 2nd July 2016.
