Heptonstall is a historic hill-top village with a narrow cobbled main street and an ancient ruined 13th century chapel next to the 19th century church, burial place of poet Sylvia Plath, who was married to local poet Ted Hughes. Don’t miss the 18th century octagonal Methodist Chapel where John Wesley preached, and the Old Grammar School Museum. The Towngate Tearoom in the centre of the village is a great place for lunch or afternoon tea.
