Lincoln Castle Magna Carta

An Historic Year for Lincolnshire

No Farm Stay holiday in Lincolnshire is complete without a visit to the magnificent city of Lincoln. Make time during your holiday to discover all the changes that have taken place at Lincoln Castle.

The Castle has been transformed into a world class visitor attraction with the 'Lincoln Castle Revealed' project, kicking off in 2016 with the tour of the Tower of London poppy exhibition.

The Lincoln Castle grounds are the permanent home to one of the original copies of the world famous Magna Carta in its own, purpose built vault.

Year round there are events, exhibitions and activities all celebrating this important document. In the castle it is possible to view the Magna Carta and the Charter of the Forest, take a walk around the whole circumference of the Castle Walls, visit the Victorian prison and enjoy the new visitor shop and café. There is also the opportunity to discover the archaeology uncovered during the work including an internationally significant Saxon sarcophagus.

A new, purpose built, Heritage Skills centre is located within the Castle Walls which hosts a range of courses. All through the summer there will be festivals, jousts, pageants and craft fairs to take part in.

As well as the Castle and Magna Carta, Lincoln has many attractions for the whole family to enjoy. A short stroll from the Castle is Lincoln Cathedral plus a good selection of museums, art galleries and an amazing selection of shops. You will find leading chain stores as well as small quirky local businesses.

There are also a vast selection of cafés and restaurants to tempt you. If exploring undiscovered parts of the city are your thing there are various tours and trails to follow. There are also Boat trips from the Brayford Pool and down the Fossdyke if you fancy a different viewpoint of the city.

When coming to Lincolnshire on holiday you will find it is possible to enjoy the open spaces, the big skies, the peace and tranquillity of your Farm Stay, but a day out in Lincoln should definitely not be missed.
